WHAT WE DO
Representation:
CSA serves as a representative body for the student population at Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE). We advocate for student interests, concerns, and rights within the university administration, faculty, and other relevant entities. They may participate in decision-making processes, sit on committees, and provide input on policies affecting students.
Student Services:
CSA is responsible for providing various services to enhance the overall student experience. This can include organizing social events, cultural activities, and sports tournaments. We also collaborate with CUE for academic support services such as tutoring programs, study groups, or workshops on study skills and time management.
Clubs and Organizations:
CSA supports various clubs and unions on campus. We help facilitate the formation of new clubs, provide resources and funding, and ensure compliance with university policies. Unions are identified by their distinctive population and represent academic faculties at CUE. Clubs can cover a wide range of interests, including academic, cultural, sports, or special interest groups.
Welfare and Support:
CSA often plays a vital role in student welfare and support. We operate a student helpline or referral services to assist students with personal, or health-related issues provided by Gallivan Student Health and Wellness. We also collaborate with the CUE's counseling services to promote mental health awareness and provide resources for students.
Communication and Information:
CSA serves as a primary communication channel between the university administration and the student body. We disseminate important information, news, and updates related to university policies, events, and opportunities. We also publish The Bolt newsletters (www.theboltnews.com), maintain the websites, and manage social media platforms to keep students informed.
External Engagement:
CSA engages with external organizations and agencies to represent student interests beyond the university. We are a member of the Alberta Student's Executive Council (ASEC) and the Association of Managers in Canadian College University and Student Centres (AMICCUS-C). In these groups our students' association can participate in regional or national student forums, conferences, and lobbying efforts. We also establish relationships with local businesses and community groups to provide benefits or discounts to students.
Fundraising and Financial Management:
CSA is responsible for managing our own budgets and financial resources and oversees budgets for Clubs and Unions.
We collect membership fees, organize fundraising events, and seek sponsorship to support our activities and initiatives. Ensuring transparency and accountability in financial matters is an essential duty of the student association so we have professional auditors to review our operations annually.
